2001 ASO final?
Really happy with the end result of this one, I used most of the same effects and processes as I did in district 9's ident, just added in the assets I had made. I will now just be uploading the videos as they all keep the same design uniformity and i will document any new processes I use in the upcoming animations. I had alot of fun animating this to the track, I automated scene changes to the kick and snare of the track for a really punchy, dark and disturbed sort of feel, which goes nicely with the feel of the film. I did this by looking at the waveform in after effects and then aligning the video tracks accordingly. The sound works really well, track entitled Miserere by ruskspin, planas and quark.

ReplyDeleteFORMATIVE FEEDBACK:
ReplyDeleteContextual Understanding:
STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES: Your blog postings are more descriptive. Talk less about how you created an effect and more about how it effects the rest of your work. Explain WHY you do things rather than just what you have done.
Critical Awareness:
WEAKNESSES: Needs more critical analysis for videos. how does the choice of type and colour etc link to the audience? Proof/informed opinion.
Design Development:
STRENGTHS: Selectively extracted initial visuals that worked. Developed into high quality resolution.
WEAKNESSES: You need to get your storyboards up onto your blog so we can see your thoughts on where you may be taking your animations.
Visual Quality:
STRENGTHS: Visuals tie in with the audio really well.
Technical Competence:
STRENGTHS: High level of tech' comp'. Makes for pleasing visuals.
Nice one!!! :D

Johnny these are looking very strong and you seem to have a very good understanding of your design direction, concept and the actual use of AfterEffects. You communicate very clearly your theme and have a strong identity. The colours are very appropriate and I really like the nice small details you have added that add a huge amount to the over-all affect - such as the flickering of the lines.
ReplyDeleteA slight negative point would be the lack of content in your idents - could you add more direction, use of space and pace of the movemenet to add more drama!?
The audio I think is a great choice and brings a new aspect to this genre of films, that is very fitting, but also original. Likewise the motion fits perfectly with the sound.
The type is a good choice and appropriate to the theme and communication of your topic.
In terms of your blog the context one could do with more comments of your own thoughts and opinion on the items posted. This will show your understanding of the clips and the way in which motion graphics are designed/produced. We also found a number of your videos didnt work. On a very small note your blog might need more clarity in the way the viewer reads through your blog - i other words how you communicate your design process.
